GENERAL STATEMENT
Summary of duties and responsibilities: Founded in 1974, Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA) plays a vital role in the recovery of donated organs and tissues for transplant. We are part of a nationwide network of agencies that are responsible for coordinating the recovery and allocation of organs and tissues within our federally designated service area. Since our founding, we’ve recovered more than 35,000 organs and saved or enhanced the lives of more than 100,000 people. The Supervisor of Tissue Recovery is responsible for the day-to-day activities of tissue recovery staff and ensures all aspect of the tissue recovery process are in compliance with STA policies and procedures, the standards and regulations as outlined by the FDA and AATB.
Education and Work Experience Qualifications
Associate’s degree or equivalent knowledge/experience required. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field preferred
Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) required within one year of hire in supervisor role
Minimum two (2) years prior supervisory experience
Minimum two (2) years in tissue recovery
Ability to coordinate multiple tasks, assign priorities and ensure efforts are accomplished in a timely and efficient manner
Excellent oral, written and documentation skills. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required
Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload
Ability to meet assigned deadlines
Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities
Current Driver’s License required
Essential Job Functions
Serves as a Supervisor-on-Call for Tissue services
Responsible for the supervision of day-to-day recovery operations. Coordinates the tissue recovery process and
ensures adequate and trained recovery personnel are available to meet the operational needsSupervises donor recovery activities by providing direction and guidance to team members
Implements internal policies and procedures to ensure recovery activities are in compliance with AATB, FDA, OSHA and STA established standards
Participates in interviewing and hiring recovery personnel in order to maintain adequate staffing numbers and to meet recovery demands
Conducts planned and unplanned site visits to all recovery offices in STA’s DSA
Performs tissue recoveries and trains staff
Provides good customer service to tissue donation partners
Collaborates with Quality Services and participates in process improvements
Evaluates tissue recovery data, develops, and implements process improvement initiatives
Performs other duties as assigned
