Referral Intake Coordinator
OVERVIEW
The Referral Intake Coordinator (RIC) is responsible for all incoming Vented and Non-Vented Referrals
called into STA from our Donor Service Area. They will collect the appropriate level of medical information
to aide in donor eligibility evaluation for organ or tissue donation and distribute the chart to the appropriate specialization for follow up.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. Current Texas credential as an EMT-B or LVN, or completion of an accredited clinical healthcare
program resulting in a certification, registry, licensure, or equivalent work experience.
2. Prior referral screening experience preferred.
3. Must be type 45 WPM, detail-oriented and able to provide accuracy in documentation.
4. Proficiency with MS Office and use of a telephone system.
5. Must have the ability to work with all levels of personnel in several healthcare settings and able to
work within the guidelines of various institutions.
6. Must be able to simultaneously perform multiple complex processes and prioritize tasks to optimize
workflow to ensure compliance with established policies and timelines.
7. Excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all
levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.
8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
9. Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto to meet all job duties and
responsibilities. Current Driver’s license required.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Responds to all incoming calls/emails to triage referrals for organ/tissue donor evaluation.
2. Evaluates initial potential tissue donors in accordance with STA, AATB, and tissue processor
criteria, to provide tissue that is safe for transplantation.
3. Evaluates initial potential organ donors in accordance with STA and OPTN criteria, to provide
organs that are safe for transplantation.
4. Proficient in documentation in the electronic donor record.
5. Communicates and provides critical medical screening information to other STA departments,
processors and agencies, as appropriate.
6. Actively seeks information pertinent to current donation and transplantation issues.
7. Performs data entry corrections as required and notified by Quality Systems in accordance with
established timelines.
8. Completes culture reporting documentation in alignment with STA and OPTN policy.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
