Placement & Allocation Coordinator

The Placement and Allocation Coordinator’s primary role is to allocate organs for transplantation in accordance with OPTN guidelines. They also are responsible for research organ allocation, including back-up transplant offers and special research projects. They assist clinical teams with other relevant donor data entry, including biopsies, serologies, and cultures. Lastly, Placement and Allocation Coordinators triage organ offers on behalf of local transplant centers in Southwest Transplant Alliance’s donor service area.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
Documents all case-related biopsy results in Electronic Donor Record.
Facilitates data documentation and reporting mechanisms of infectious disease, cultures, and ABO results following STA and OPTN policy.
Triages, evaluates, and communicates organ offers for local transplant centers following transplant center algorithms, STA and OPTN policy.
Facilitates organs and tissues for research once transplantation is no longer an option following OPTN and STA policy.
Collaborates with clinical and tissue recovery staff to coordinate order of allocation for all authorized gifts.
Performs data entry corrections as required and is notified by Quality Systems by the end of the next working shift.
Performs post-case kidney allocation for transplant and research.
Monitors kidney pumps and communicates pump parameters, biopsy results, etc. to surgeons or coordinators at the transplant center.
Sets up transportation for organs placed.
Allocates thoracic and abdominal organs for transplant.
Assists with chart entry for expedited cases.
Coordinates logistics for OR including transportation of recovery teams and organs.
Reviews information documented in the Electronic Donor Record to verify accuracy and completeness of documentation by performing the tasks of a second verifier.
Completes charting and quality documentation requirements, such as post OR case completion, DDR completion, and Feedback.
Other duties as assigned.

The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy.
Education, Experience and Licensing Requirements:
Associates Degree in a medical field or medical certification, License/Registrations, Surgical Technician or equivalent OPO experience. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
Prior clinical call center experience preferred.
Qualifications and Skills:
Must be detail-oriented and able to provide accuracy in documentation.
Direct experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.
Must be able to simultaneously perform multiple complex processes and prioritize tasks to optimize workflow to ensure compliance with established policies and timelines.
Excellent oral, written, and documentation skills. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, and to represent the organization publicly.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, electronic medical records, and use of a telephone system, including VOIP and multi-line systems.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.
Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.
Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment.
Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal automobile in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities.
Current Driver’s license required.
