System Administrator III

Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex operating systems. Recommends the redesign and configuration of operating systems and system applications. Investigates and analyze the feasibility of system requirements and develop system specifications. Identifies methods and solutions and provides project leadership and management to provide high service to the department’s customers. This individual participates in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure.

The System Administrator III will be responsible for daily administration and support for the organization's computer and cloud systems, including server management, collaboration services, VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Microsoft Azure, and Amazon Web Services environment design and management. The person will also provide technical support for the Enterprise Backup software, including installation and configuring backup application(s) and adjusting parameters for various Operating systems requiring data backups. Monitoring systems, applications, and processes related to enterprise servers and systems. Use available tools to provide appropriate monitoring of all servers, systems, backup, and data media processes. This individual will assist Network Engineering with gathering and documenting functional, technical, integration, and data requirements, providing expertise in complex system integration design, development, testing, issue resolution, and support. Assist with the daily operations of the data center, design of the remote data center, LAN/WAN construction, patch remediation, server monitoring, and serve as last-tier support to the daily service desk.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Design, install, support, and maintain Windows, Linux, and VMware-based servers, Active Directory, Domain operations, Group Policy, LAN/WAN, firewalls, routers, and other systems. Coordinate repair or maintenance of network and telecom-related hardware. Coordinate repair or maintenance of network and telecom-related hardware. Installs, configures, monitors, troubleshoots, and replaces virtual server and desktop infrastructures, along with physical infrastructure.

  • Administer and support core Microsoft, Meraki, Palo Alto, and VMware technologies. Design and support a VMware cluster environment consisting of local and remote data centers, including backup and data security. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary. Create, change, and delete user accounts per request. Management of the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) or Microsoft Intune environment. Provide day-to-day management of the SCCM and/or MS Intune environment and will also be responsible for guiding the architecture and design of the SCCM and/or MS Intune environment and will lead team projects in the group, including new technologies, upgrades, and implementation. 

  • Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts, and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired. Develops and coordinates projects under the direction of the STA Project Manager and IT Director and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations. Provides leadership in planning and implementing projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.

  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying the completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions in coordination with the IT Security Analyst.

  • Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off-site as necessary.

  • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies.

  • Develop, implement, and document systems administration know standards and create standards operating procedures based on industry best practices. Contributes to the development and continual improvement of the change management process.

  • Responds to events such as system reboots, outages, server alerts, and complex system alerts.

  • Monitors common and individual work queues. Completes or escalates incidents and service requests in a timely fashion. Provides escalation assistance to all IT team members.

  • Maintains skills as technology and implementations evolve to assist Southwest Transplant Alliance as it adds and expands its service offerings.

  • Working on a rotating schedule, taking calls on evenings, weekends, and holidays to provide user support and network uptime.

  • Implement operating system enhancements that will improve the reliability and performance of the STA server and cloud system.

  • Performs and evaluates cost analysis and vendor comparisons from small through large-scale projects to ensure cost-effective and efficient operations.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSING REQUIREMENTS:

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree - Information Technology, MIS, or related field

  • Required: Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Server Infrastructure (MCSE: Server Infrastructure) or VMWare Certified Professional

  • Required: 5+ years’ experience with progressively more responsibility, including a wide range of server/networking activities.  Advanced knowledge and experience with implementing and utilizing new systems and technologies. Additional experience may be substituted for the required degree on a one-to-one-year basis.

  • Required 5+ years of experience overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

  • Must have advanced technical skills and working knowledge in at least one or more verticals. The list is not inclusive as technology changes often. * Cisco UCS * VMWare * Dell EMC * Cloud Technologies including Azure and AWS * Citrix * Microsoft Technologies including Active Directory, Exchange, and PowerShell * Microsoft SCCM or Intune Platform.

  • Experience working with virtual machines. (e.g., Microsoft Hyper-V, VMWare vSphere, Citrix XenDesktop/Server, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, etc.).

  • Experience with backups, proficient in system backups and restores/recoveries from disks/virtual/cloud.

  • Experience or understanding of working in a technical environment requiring compliance, e.g., HIPAA, SOC2, PCI-DSS, SOX

  • Experience working using automated deployment and maintenance technologies.

  • Knowledge of Programming languages and operating systems, current equipment and technologies in use; VMWare, Linux, and Microsoft systems administration; enterprise backup and recovery procedures; and system performance monitoring tools.

  • Strong knowledge in Patch Management, Anti-Malware/Anti-Virus, desktop/laptop imaging, anti-virus, and inventory management tools.                 

  • Direct experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills are required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.

  • Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.

  • Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities. Current Driver’s license required.
