Supervisor, Organ Recovery Coordinator

GENERAL STATEMENT (Summary of Duties and Responsibilities)

Responsibility for regional day-to-day activities related to recovering organs and tissues, including but not limited to hospital development activities, potential donor referrals, donor evaluation, family support, authorization process, and comprehensive donor management.  Activities include, but are not limited to, being knowledgeable of individual hospital and OPTN policies related to the donation of all anatomical gifts; able to identify key personnel for maintaining a hospital's level of participation in facilitating potential organ and tissue donors; and performing activities related to the patient referral and surgical recovery elements of the donation process. Advancing level responsibilities include facilitating donor management strategies, advanced donor management strategies and invasive procedures.  The position will also facilitate the general activities required throughout the donor recovery period under the direction of the medical director, clinical management team, and the lead recovery surgeon present in the operating room.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Associates degree in Nursing or biological science or related experience required.  Bachelor's degree preferred.  Licensed as a registered nurse or a physician’s assistant, or applicable experience and related training preferred. 

  2. Minimum three years as an Organ Recovery Coordinator II or higher, or equivalent experience.

  3. Certification as a Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator through the American Board for Transplant Certification preferred.

  4. Prior experience as a preceptor in a clinical setting.

  5. Prior leadership experience in a clinical setting preferred

  6. Expert knowledge of OPO standards & OPTN policy related to OPO responsibilities and organ allocation.

  7. Excellent communication skills required.  Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly. Must have the ability to provide clear written and oral instruction related to complex processes, communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, and to represent the organization publicly.

  8. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required.

  9. Detail oriented, with ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.

  10. Must be able to simultaneously execute upon multiple complex processes, provide accurate documentation, and prioritize tasks to optimize workflow in order to ensure compliance with established policies and timelines.

  11. Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload.

  12. Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft, or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities.
