Funeral Home Liaison

GENERAL STATEMENT (Summary of Duties & Responsibilities):

Develops and maintains effective relationships and communication with key Funeral Directors throughout the service area to help facilitate the Organ and Tissue donation process, increase non-hospital referrals, and promotes the organization’s visibility within mortuary communities. Responsible for routine implementation of all educational and relationship initiatives within the OPO service area to Funeral Home partners. Activities will be aligned with the strategic and operational goals of the organization.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/ or equivalent work experience required

  • Previous professional customer service, Organ and Tissue donation industry experience preferred

  • Three years of experience in Medicolegal investigations and/or prior work in Mortuary Science required

  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail, organization, multitasking & time management

  • Excellent communication skills required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly

  • Ability to work both independently (self-starter) and as part of a team required

  • Able to multitask and cope with high levels of stress and heavy workload

  • Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities

  • Current Driver’s license required

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Identifies communication and procedural challenges that may exist within the organization, funeral homes, hospitals, and medicolegal partners. Will led the investigation of concerns, complaints, errors, and omissions, and will confers with organizational leadership to implement resolutions

  • Develops and maintains effective relationships by providing a high level of customer service through timely and ongoing communication, visible presence amongst mortuary partners, as well as other key individuals essential to the donation process throughout the DSA on a monthly and as needed basis.

  • Develops and implements relevant Donation-Mortuary specific educational materials, surveys, and other resource materials for mortuary professionals with a focus on collaboration, mutual understanding, and promoting the mission of donation

  • Attends post case debriefs and other review meetings with internal partners (e.g., Tissue Recovery, Donation Services, etc.) to mitigate issues and/or provide other process improvement feedback

  • Performs review and analysis of relevant mortuary-specific organizational data. Able to develop reporting structures and other trend analysis methodologies

  • Involvement with community partners such as mortuary science college, trade associations (local/regional/national) and other industry collaboratives

  • Leads the development, implementation, and maintenance of organizational policies related to Funeral Home and Mortuary operations

  • Facilitates accounting and billing needs of our mortuary and medicolegal partners

  • Provides 24/7 support for donation operations by leveraging key relationships to overcome barriers to donation and providing real time follow up

  • Achieves and maintains proficiency in donor reconstruction techniques and stays current with mortuary practices

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
