Director, Donation Services and Allocation

Summary:

The Director of Donation Services and Allocation oversees the placement and distribution of organs and tissues for transplant, research or education purposes. This 24/7 operation requires in-depth knowledge of policy and procedure regarding placement and allocation of organs and tissues. The incumbent also helps manage relationships with external partners such as tissue processors, researchers, and transplant centers.

 

 Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the team that performs organ, tissue, and research allocation

  • Collaborates with senior leadership to set the strategic vision for STA’s organ and tissue programs

  • Responsible for tracking and trending metrics along with adjusting practices to meet goals

  • Collaborates with all levels of leadership to create and maintains an efficient allocation process

  • Leads the development of operational standards, policies, and procedures of the department

  • Maintains effective relationships with key stakeholders including, but not limited to transplant centers, tissue processors, and researchers

  • Participates in on-call duties and accountable for the 24/7 operations of the department

  • Involved in quality improvement projects to reduce inefficiencies and increase donation opportunities

  • Ensures compliance with all related policies and standards that govern the donation process

  • Creates and maintains department budget, headcount, and other related controls

  • Oversees department’s compliance with timekeeping, expenses, and documentation

  • Ensures effective call intake when needed to support the referral intake team

  • Ensures appropriate dispatch of tissue recovery teams and logistics of organ OR planning

  • Assists with building and implementing strategy for research opportunities to advance the medical community

  • Accountable for teams’ coordination and release of the donated gift to its destination

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Compliance:

  • OSHA CATEGORY DEFINITION: Category 2- The incumbent in this position has potential for occupational exposure

  • The incumbent will have access to confidential material and is required to use discretion with this information and comply with STA Confidentiality policy

 

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required

  • 5 years of relevant work experience required

  • Leadership and management experience required

  • Extensive knowledge of organ and tissue regulations related to allocation of organs and tissues is required

  • In depth knowledge of the OPO industry and federal regulatory standards and Texas law regarding anatomical gifts. Maintains awareness of identified industry best practices.

  • Demonstrated experience in creating and delivering quality training and educational materials and programs. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel and to represent the organization publicly.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent oral, written, and documentation skills

  • Ability to work in a 24/7 environment

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team required

  • Ability to cope with high levels of stress and able to handle a heavy workload

  • Ability to be flexible in a dynamic work environment

  • Ability to travel in light and commercial aircraft or drive his/her personal auto in order to meet all job duties and responsibilities 

 PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT / WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal office environment and is required to use his/her private automobile in order to meet all the duties and responsibilities of this position.
