Statement from Patti Niles, CEO & President, on Black Lives Matter
To our STA employees, partners, families and friends:
This week, we took a pause from communications and social media to reflect, to listen, and to look inward.
Years of inequality and injustice, combined with recent events have so many of us reeling and looking for the right words. I know that our employees, friends and community are hurting. I believe we all need healing, support and love. We won't always see eye to eye on race relations and politics. But I have always believed that what brings us together makes us stronger.
It's my promise to listen to employees and the communities we serve and to address how we can play a proactive role in combating racism and injustice. Our entire organization stands against inequality. We save lives because we are entrusted to fulfill the gift of life for a diverse community of more than 10 million Texans.
I believe in the human race. I believe that healing and hope can come from peaceful conversation. Everyone has a right to be heard, to speak out, to protest peacefully and to expect better from each other. I know I do.
