Dr. Geoffrey Funk

Chief Medical Officer

Tenured critical care and trauma surgeon, Dr. Geoffrey Funk, serves as Chief Medical Officer at STA. In his role, Dr. Funk oversees all organ procurement surgical procedures and ensures organ and tissue recovery processes uphold quality standards and the best possible outcomes. He also works closely with STA clinical employees, providing training and support. His extensive knowledge and experience help save lives through organ procurement.

Prior to joining STA, Dr. Funk served as Executive Clerkship Director for Surgery at the Dallas training campus for Texas A&M University College of Medicine. He has appointments as a Clinical Associate Professor at the Texas A&M University College of Medicine and Associate Professor at Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas Health Science Center. Dr. Funk is also currently pursuing a graduate degree through Southern Methodist University with a focus on adult medical education.

Dr. Funk completed his undergraduate education at Texas A&M University with degrees in biochemistry and genetics. He then went on to complete medical school at Texas A&M University System Health Science Center and received the Raleigh R. White Excellence in Surgery Award. Following, he completed his residency training in General Surgery at Baylor University Medical Center in 2009 and a fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in 2010. Dr. Funk is board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care through the American Board of Surgery.
