For more than 40 years, Southwest Transplant Alliance (STA) has been saving and enhancing lives by recovering donated organs and tissues for transplant. Founded in 1974, STA is among the largest of 58 federally designated, nonprofit organ procurement organizations (OPOs) in the United States.

STA was the first freestanding, independent OPO in the United States. We were founded to facilitate kidney retrieval for Parkland Memorial Hospital. That first year, we recovered 13 organs from nine donors. Today, STA coordinates organ transplantation to patients in 10 transplant centers in our donor service area and across the country. Since STA was founded, we’ve recovered more than 30,000 organs and saved or enhanced the lives of more than 100,000 people.
