Geoffrey Funk, M.D., F.A.C.S., joined STA as assistant medical director in January 2016.
When not on call at STA, Dr. Funk is an attending surgeon in general and trauma surgery, as well as surgical critical care at Baylor University Medical Center, a Level 1 Trauma Center in Dallas, Texas. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in liberal studies at Southern Methodist University with a focus on revitalizing medical education for a new generation of learners.
Since 2011, Dr. Funk has held an appointment as an assistant professor of surgery at Texas.
A & M University and the Texas A & M Health Science Center. He is the author of several peer-reviewed publications and is a frequent speaker at various local and national conferences.
Dr. Funk earned his M.D. from Texas A & M, where he graduated with honors and was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed a five-year residency in general surgery at Baylor University Medical Center and subsequently, a fellowship in surgical critical care at UT Southwestern. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery in both general surgery and surgical critical care. Dr. Funk is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Funk is a member of several professional associations and honor societies including the Association for Surgical Education, the Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma, the Texas Surgical Society, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Rapport Society.
