Katie Whitton, Director of Marketing and Communications, directs the organization’s marketing, public relations and overall communications efforts. She and her team run a variety of community outreach, public education and media relations programs designed to create awareness about organ, eye and tissue donation.
Prior to joining STA in Janaury 2016, Katie served as communications director of a mayoral campaign in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was also the director of communications and public relations of the city’s major daily newspaper where she won several awards from the Colorado Press Association. Katie spent almost nine years as the director of public relations and broadcasting at the Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado. She began her public relations career in New York and Washington, D.C., working at top ten public relations firms where she held progressive leadership roles.
A winner of both a Thoth and Silver Anvil award, Katie has a long history in both public relations and media. She is a former television talk show writer, producer and host, television news anchor and reporter, and newspaper columnist.
Katie earned a Bachelor of Arts in communications studies from Virginia Tech and is a graduate of Circle in the Square Broadway Conservatory.
She is a member of the Dallas chapter of Public Relations Society of America where she currently serves as awards co-chair. Katie is also a member of the Dallas Press Club.
