Jeffrey Reese, M.D., F.A.C.S., is the medical director and the first full-time procurement surgeon at STA. Dr. Reese conducts organ procurement surgeries and provides education to physicians and the public about organ donation.
Before joining STA in April of 2014, Dr. Reese was a staff surgeon for four years at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harligen, Texas, before being promoted to chief of surgery at the hospital in 2012. Previously, Dr. Reese was an associate professor of surgery at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine.
With more than 25 years in the organ procurement field, Dr. Reese has published numerous abstracts and research articles in medical and scientific journals, and speaks frequently on the national stage about organ procurement. Dr. Reese regularly reviews scientific articles for the Journal of Surgical Education and currently is on the Surgical Education and Self-Assessment Program committee for the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Reese earned his Doctor of Medicine from Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Washington University in St. Louis, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Dr. Reese is a member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons and the New England Surgical Society. He is also a member of the United Network of Organ Sharing (UNOS) where he has served on several committees.
