As Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Burt Mattice oversees the operations teams at STA.
With almost 40 years’ experience in the organ procurement industry, Mattice has helped STA become one of the most successful OPO’s in the country by breaking records in the number of organs transplanted. He has implemented a LEAN process improvement project to help assess and improve operational performance and streamline policies and procedures.
Prior to STA, Mattice served in leadership roles at a number of organ procurement organizations throughout the country. He was the chief operating officer at Gift of Life in Ann Arbor Michigan and the vice president and chief operating officer at Carolina Donor Services in Durham, North Carolina. He served as executive director of Life Connection in Dayton, Ohio, and is the founder of the Gift of Life Fund in Dayton, Ohio, an organization created to raise funds for transplant and donor families.
Mattice is a longtime member of the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO), where he has held several leadership roles over the decades. He has been selected as the 2017 chairperson of the Standards and Accreditation Committee and has been a member of the AOPO survey team for more than 20 years.
He is the past president of the America Board for Transplant Certification.
He has an MBA from Century University in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is a certified procurement transplant coordinator and certified transplant preservationist.
A frequent speaker at national conferences in organ procurement, Mattice was awarded a $1.1 million grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to study the donation of lungs from non-heart beating donors.
Mattice has received numerous awards during his career. Most recently, he was the recipient of the first-ever Lifetime Achievement award from AOPO for his outstanding contributions to the organ donation and transplant community.
