Southwest Transplant Alliance is dedicated to saving lives. To accomplish this, we hold community events throughout our service area to register people to become organ, eye and tissue donors. From speaking engagements at schools, to booths at health fairs to participation in the Donate Life Float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, STA is out in the community spreading the word about the importance of donation.

Joey Gase

Twice a year, NASCAR driver and donor family member Joey Gase comes to the DFW Metroplex to race his Donate Life Texas #52 car at the Texas Motor Speedway and promote awareness of the importance of donation. Following his mother’s sudden death in 2011, Gase was called upon to consent to donating her organs, eyes and tissues which ultimately touched the lives of 66 people in need of transplants.  Since then, Gase has become as passionate about donation as he is about racing. In December 2015, he was awarded NASCAR’s inaugural Community Champion Award for his work supporting organ, eye and tissue donation. Look for information on our calendar for Joey’s next visit.

Celebration of Life

At Southwest Transplant Alliance, our donors are our heroes. To honor their memory, we host donor family celebrations throughout the year in our various service areas in the state of Texas. These events are our way of expressing gratitude to those who gave the ultimate gift of life. We also host these celebrations to give comfort, support and a sense of connection to our donor families. At the celebrations, we recognize the donors and their families and often commemorate the event with a beautiful sand ceremony, which symbolizes the blending of lives. For information about our Celebration of Life events please email us at celebrations@organ.org.

Donate Life Rose Parade Float

rose_parade2204

Since 2004, the Donate Life Rose Parade Float has served as a memorial to organ, eye and tissue donors. It’s an amazing platform for donor families, living donors and transplant recipients who inspire the world to save lives. As part of the event, the donor families selected have the opportunity to help bring the float to life by decorating portraits, known as floragraphs, of each honoree. Southwest Transplant Alliance is proud to be a sponsor of this annual event held in Pasadena, California.
